Is Having Bright Pink Hair in…

This past Sunday at church was supposed to be like any other—quiet and reflective. But one thing caught my attention: a woman with bright neon pink hair sitting in the front pew. I know self-expression is celebrated today, but church, to me, has always been about modesty and respect. The bold color felt out of place in such a sacred space. I struggled to focus on the sermon, my thoughts circling back to whether such a loud statement was appropriate. After the service, I hesitated but finally approached her. “I couldn’t help but notice your hair,” I said politely. “I just feel such bright colors might not be appropriate for church.” She didn’t apologize or explain. Instead, she responded curtly, “Well, I don’t think it’s any of your business. I come to pray, not to be judged.” I was taken aback. Had I overstepped? My intention wasn’t to offend but to express concern for reverence in church. Now, I’m conflicted. Have we lost a sense of tradition and sacredness in how we present ourselves at church? Or am I just being old-fashioned? I’d love to hear your thoughts—was I out of line, or do certain standards still matter in a place of worship, This keeps the story engaging while trimming unnecessary repetition. Let me know if you’d like further refinements!
