The real salary of Pope Leo XIV

Posted on May 9, 2025 By Admin

Despite being one of the world’s most powerful religious leaders, the Pope doesn’t earn a traditional salary. Instead, the Vatican covers all his needs — housing, food, travel, healthcare, and security. While technically entitled to a modest stipend of around €2,500 ($2,650) per month, Pope Leo XIV, like Pope Francis before him, is expected to live simply. Francis famously rejected luxuries, once auctioning a $950,000 Lamborghini for charity. Wealth and Resources The Pope has access to considerable resources, but not for personal gain. Pope Francis’s net worth was estimated at $12 million — reflecting assets used for papal duties and charitable work, not private wealth. The Vatican’s Financial Picture The Vatican runs on global donations, tourism, and museum income. In 2013, it took in $315 million but spent $348 million. Contributions like Peter’s Pence raise about $25 million a year, though financial deficits persist. To cut costs, Pope Francis reduced clergy salaries in 2021
