Greenland responds to Trump’s desire to acquire the…

Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Bourup Egede, firmly rejected Donald Trump’s claim that the U.S. would acquire Greenland “one way or another,” declaring, “Kalaallit Nunaat is ours. “We don’t want to be Americans, nor Danes; we are Kalaallit,” Egede said. “We are not for sale and cannot simply be taken. Our future will be decided by us.” Trump’s March 4 remarks to Congress emphasized U.S. interest in Greenland for “national and international security,” adding, “We will keep you safe. We will make you rich… And I think we’re going to get it—one way or the other.” Greenland, part of the Kingdom of Denmark for centuries, is largely self-governed. Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen dismissed the idea, stressing Greenlanders don’t wish to join the U.S. and that upcoming elections must remain free of outside influence
