In the newly aired second part of HBO’s Billy Joel: And So It Goes (July 25, 2025), music legend Billy Joel reflects on his relationship with supermodel Christie Brinkley.
The two met in 1983, married in 1985, and quickly became one of the most well-known celebrity couples of the time.
Joel described their early days as joyful and inspiring, often calling Brinkley his creative muse.
As time went on, however, their marriage faced challenges. By the late ’80s, long tours, creative stress, and outside pressures began to take a toll.
Joel admitted his busy schedule kept him away from home, and Brinkley pointed to emotional strain reflected in his music. They officially divorced in 1994 but remained on good terms. In May 2025, Joel publicly shared his diagnosis with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that affects the brain.
Christie responded with a heartfelt message wishing him well, while their daughter Alexa Ray Joel shared her love and support, calling him “Pop” in an emotional tribute.
Brinkley also looked back on their time together in her recent memoir Uptown Girl, highlighting both joyful moments and personal struggles. While the relationship didn’t last, the mutual support between Joel, Brinkley, and their daughter shows that care and respect remain strong even after years apart.
