After the Election of the First American Pope, Donald Trump Breaks His Silence

Posted on May 9, 2025 By Admin

On May 8, 2025, white smoke from the Sistine Chapel signaled the election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago as Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope. He succeeds Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21 at age 88 after a stroke. The conclave began on May 7 with 115 cardinals voting in secret. Following tradition, black smoke indicated indecision until white smoke confirmed a successful vote. Prevost, born in 1956, is an Augustinian priest known for his leadership in Peru and within his order. His papal name, Leo XIV, honors St. Leo the Great and Leo XIII, reflecting themes of courage and social justice. Leaders worldwide, including Donald Trump, quickly responded. Trump called it a “Great Honor” for the U.S. on Truth Social. Pope Leo XIV’s early priorities are expected to include climate action, migrant advocacy, youth outreach, and church reform. His inauguration Mass is set for May 20, 2025
