In 2013, Australian social entrepreneur Elliot Costello visited a Cambodian orphanage, where he met 10-year-old Thea. During their time together, she painted one of his nails—a moment that inspired a silent vow: he would keep it painted to honor her and other children affected by violence. That gesture became the foundation for Polished Man, a global campaign encouraging men to paint one nail in solidarity with the 1 in 5 children who experience sexual violence before age 18. The initiative raises awareness and funds for prevention and recovery programs. The campaign quickly gained celebrity support from figures like Chris Hemsworth and Zac Efron, helping spread its message worldwide. Since its launch, Polished Man has raised over $8.7 million, funding trauma care, education, and protective programs for at-risk children.
