This is what sleeping on the left side does for our brain

Posted on May 11, 2025 By Admin

Side sleeping is a common and often comfortable position, but many may not realize it comes with several health benefits—especially when done on the left side. Sleeping on the left side can help reduce back pain by keeping the spine aligned and relieving pressure on the lower back. It may also reduce snoring and symptoms of sleep apnea by keeping the airway open. Additionally, left-side sleeping supports digestion, as gravity helps move food through the digestive tract more efficiently due to the stomach’s position. This position may also benefit brain health. During sleep, the brain clears waste through the glymphatic system, and side sleeping appears to aid this process, potentially reducing the risk of neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Improved circulation is another perk, especially for pregnant women, as it promotes better blood flow to the placenta. While comfort should guide sleep posture, switching sides may help relieve specific health symptoms
