Lauren Wasser, a Californian model, lost her right leg in 2012 due to toxic shock syndrome (TSS) caused by tampon use. TSS is a severe bacterial infection that can occur when tampons are left in too long. Lauren fell into a coma and awoke to find her leg amputated. She later lost her other leg but remains determined to raise awareness about tampon safety. She has taken legal action against Kotex Natural Balance and continues to educate others about the risks.
